2010 and the ITM system
Through the Music Department a large number of Itinerant Music teachers are dedicated at providing music expertise in their chosen field to the pupils for the Katikati College. Lessons are provided by a combination of government funded free lessons and private providers.
For 2010 the free government sponsored lessons are on the following instruments “Guitar, Bass Guitar, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.” Your child can collect an application form from the student office if they are interested in learning one of these instruments. Currently we are running waiting lists for Guitar.
For 2010 the private providers are Singing (Cathy Harris), Guitar (Sean Bodley), Piano / Keyboard (Joyette Drost) and Drums (Kal Irwin). The drum lessons have had a large intake to a few number of lessons, so waiting lists are also in place for this instrument. If you are interested in learning from a private teacher, please contact the Music Department for details.
The school also has a number of instruments for hire at a cost of $45.00 for the year. Currently available for 2010 we currently have available Trombone, Clarinets, Trumpets, Violin and Viola. Or else you can hire an instrument from Bay City Music or the Rock Shop in Tauranga. Both companies have excellent hirage schemes and hire to buy schemes.
Music lessons occur during school time and are approximately 30 minutes in length. Due the revolving school timetable students will not miss the same class each week.
If you desire more information about the program and contact details of the teachers themselves please ask your child to collect a “Everything you need to know about learning a music instrument at Katikati College” brochure from the Student Office or email wfleming@katikaticollege.school.nz.
