TeamGeo - Coastal Landforms

10 05 2009

In class we have learnt about the development of the Waihi Beach Coastal Environment in general and covered the formation of the Bowentown tombolo spit. Your job now is to find out about the formation of some other coastal landforms present at Waihi Beach. Look for information on the following:

  • Sand dunes
  • Caves, Arches, Stacks and Stumps
  • Wave-cut platforms.

You will need to be able to describe these features and explain how processes have interacted to form them. You should summarise what you have found out, by creating THREE-STAGE diagrams in your notes showing the formation of each coastal landform.

You should develop an answer in a word document, and then when you are happy with it you should submit it as a comment to this post.Your paragraph must include the following terms (in capitals):

  • wave length
  • height
  • circular
  • friction
  • frequency
  • beach profile
  • kinetic

TeamGeo - Longshore Drift

7 03 2008

We have spent a lot of time looking at beach profiles and different wave actions. Test your knowledge with this little crossword.

Cranston’s Coastal Crossword © 2008

Good Luck!

Once you have finished the crossword, you will take the reigns and find out about ‘Longshore Drift’. There will be heaps of information out there. You need to find:

  • How it works
  • A Diagram
  • How it changes the coastline
  • What people do about it
  • How effective these methods are.

Collate your information in a WordTM and use a layout that is suitable for glueing into your notes.
