TeamGeo - Amazon Basin puzzles

26 03 2008

Hi Team. We had great fun in class the other day playing the Challenge Board about the Amazon Basin. The mighty ‘DarkandDusty’ team took out the title. To play the quiz again on your own click here. Today, I would like you to pair up and draw on your vast knowledge (and your notes if you have to) and create a puzzle about the Amazon that others can play. Click Here to login as an instructor, I would recommend making a ‘Rags to Riches’ game. Once you have completed your game, submit a link to your puzzle as a comment to this post.

TeamGeo - Soil in the Amazon Basin

7 03 2008

So far in class we have looked at three of the four landscape elements: Relief, Climate and Vegetation. We have looked at both the patterns and processes related to each of them.

Your job is to find out about the soil patterns and processes. This means:

  • What types of soil are there in the amazon
  • Where they are found
  • How/Why each soil type is formed

You need to develop your own notes and resources about these and print them off. You should think about a suitable layout that will fit with the rest of your notes.

You information should include these terms: latosol (latozol), podsol (podzol), alluvium, varzea, terra firme, savanna, leaching, iron, annual, a map or diagram.
