Hi Team Tourism,
Our first assessment will be 18243: Demonstrate knowledge of world travel geography outside New Zealand. In this unit standard you will get to know some of the most significant destinations for world tourism. You will need to be able to locate countries and cities and describe attractions in them.
We will be getting fancy and using Google Earth for it.
So today we will start finding out what Google Earth can do.Your task over the next couple of days is to create a Google Earth Folder of some places important to you. It may be a collection of very local places, or other parts of New Zealand, or even over seas. Whatever places you choose, you need to include the following elements:
All places should be added to a ‘named folder’
At least four ‘placemarks’
At least one ‘path’
At least one ‘polygon’
Two placemarks should have a ‘description’
The folder should be saved to the server when it is full
Before we start looking at the various processes that cause volcanic hazards, I would like to see what you know already. In pairs, you are to construct an answer that uses all of the following words.

Recently, we have been looking into the Rwanda conflict of 1994. We were all pretty moved about what happened and the lack of international support. Unfortunately, there is a very similar conflict taking place right now. Your task is to find out about the crisis in Darfur. You will need to create a voicethread about (Here is an example of a voicethread to: Click here):
Where the conflict is occuring (needs to include a map and a description)
What is happening in the conflict
Why the conflict is happening
8 Key facts about the conflict.
This is a very sensitive issue and you will need a mature and respectful approach. You final product will be fully public - people who actually live in Darfur and their relatives may see this! - so it is very important that your material is accurate and not too graphic. It should be appropriate for a Year 9 Social Studies teacher to show their class. Here are some videos that will help you understand the Darfur conflict:
