Try out this ten question quiz. This next site lets you make, change, test and print out your own virtual circuits. You can’t break or lose the gear, and it always works.
Would you like to win a college canteen voucher? Submit your own ten question quiz, (with answers), suitable for Year 9 or 10. Make three questions simple, three challenging, with three in the middle range and a last one which is right outside the square. Post your entries by the end of May. The best one (or maybe two or three) drawn wins a $5.00 canteen voucher.
Well done Lindsey. The answer is to have a short circuit (containing only a switch) in parallel with the lamp.
The University of Canterbury has just posted details of the Rutherford Science Competition 2008. Year 9 and 10 students have to write an essay on one of a range of topics. Not only are the topics quite diverse and interesting, but the site also lists a number of websites that will help you with each topic.
The closing date for entries is 31 July 2008. Check out the competition details here.
How can you have a circuit where the ONLY lamp glows when the switch is OFF, and the lamp only goes OFF when the switch is ON? Sounds impossible - it’s not, but it takes some thinking outside the square. A canteen voucher for the first correct answer. Send in your solution via a comment……
Year 9 are currently learning about electricity, and looking at how we can power a home/bach via solar panels.
Look at this link to see what our American cousins are currently arguing about. What is your stance? How would you feel about this argument applied to your Kiwi bach? Add a comment to share your views.
Here is an email I just received from the co-ordinator
of March Monitoring Month. You have won the top prize
in this national competition and have clearly made
a big impression with the quality and depth of your work.
Well done!
Hi Hilary and 9MKE, We are delighted to inform you that your entry to March Monitoring Month and Koura Kraze 2008 has been awarded one of our top prizes. We were very impressed with the amount of work your students put into your waterways unit. In particular the comprehensive analysis of the health of the waterway carried out by each and everyone of you was fantastic. Clearly articulating the sources of pollution which can affect the health of your river and offering steps to minimise pollution in the future was very pleasing. As the major prize winner you will receive monitoring equipment including a clarity tube, pH paper and a net valued at over $300 to help you with your future water monitoring endeavours. On a personal note I have enjoyed interacting with you and your fantastic class as part of March Monitoring Month and Koura Kraze 2008. You did an outstanding job. We hope you will keep in touch and let us know about your future environmental monitoring projects. Your work will be profiled in our next EMAP Newsletter which is included in the ED Gazette Vol 87 Issue 9 due out on 2/06/2008. We also hope you will get involved in March Monitoring Month and Koura Kraze in 2009. Kind regards Rebecca ********************** Rebecca Goffin EFS Educator/EMAP National Coordinator The Royal Society of New Zealand, PO Box 598, Wellington
